QA Tester/Analyst

GoodMaps is looking for a Quality Assurance Tester. This position is part of the Product and User Experience Team, the group responsible for seeking customer and user problems, building solutions as GoodMaps products, and supporting GoodMaps products. Those products are GoodMaps Explore, the outdoor and indoor navigation app for people who are blind and visually impaired, and GoodMaps Studio, the mapping platform where venue owners can view and manage their building maps. The QA Tester will also contribute to cutting-edge R&D projects happening behind the scenes.

We use LiDAR and hyper-accurate infrastructure-free positioning technology to create mapping and navigation experiences through the GoodMaps platform.

What You'll Do

The QA Tester ensures that users' problems are being solved by our products and that the overall product vision is being met with each completed feature, and if not, identifying and analyzing what needs to change. To do that you will:

  • Need a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Business Analysis, Computer Science, or related areas of study (equivalent job experience also accepted)
  • Need 3-5 years experience as a Quality Analyst, Manual Tester, Quality Control Analyst, or related position
  • Manually test GoodMaps products' development work against defined product vision requirements and acceptance criteria, mainly (but not limited to): usability, functionality, stability, performance, aesthetics, and security
  • Identify, escalate, and help to resolve new bugs by monitoring and analyzing product usage
  • Collaborate with agile team to prevent bugs and create an efficient process for fixing bugs when they do occur
  • Travel to mapped buildings (in Louisville and around the country) to test navigational accuracy, test user experience scenarios, collect results, and provide reporting
  • Derive quantitative and qualitative insights about usage, stability, and performance
  • Need experience in a software development life cycle (SDLC) including concept, design, testing, release, training, and support
  • Need experience collaborating with developers and UX designers to clarifying requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Need experience with Jira (or similar bug tracking and reporting system), Confluence, and the Microsoft Suite
  • Need experience working with iOS/Android apps and websites, especially React Native and React
  • Understand responsive web design and web design best practices
  • Test for accessibility on mobile and web:
  • VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, JAWS
  • Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR), WCAG 2.1
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and web and mobile development concepts including components (this is not a developer position - you will not be coding - but a basic understanding of these languages helps our team talk)
  • Knowledge of our market and users is not required, but will need to be learned
  • Communicate directly with customers about their product issues through user testing
  • Partner with Product and Development to implement impactful customer experience improvements in existing products, and help ensure that new product launches align with the needs of the customer

  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communication skills, mainly (but not limited to): spelling, grammar, punctuation, parallel sentence structure, and consistent writing style
  • Strong IT skills
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of IT systems
